A number of renowned architectural practices are unveiling their proposals for 11th Street Bridge Park, the first elevated park in Washington DC. The park will measure around the same length as three football fields placed end to end, and will be built atop the foundations of a former freeway bridge running across the Anacostia River.
The 11th Street Bridge Park project is the brainchild of the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus, and is receiving funding and support from the Washington DC city council.
The most detailed proposal is that of OMA and OLIN -- it features a pair of sloped pedestrian ramps that give way to lookout points offering expansive views of the local area. Meanwhile, the Balmori Associates and Cooper, Robertson and Partners' proposals will feature basketball courts, a skate park, kayak launch site and other amenities.
