Another advance in auto security has arisen, this time by Hitachi, and it involves some high tech finger print scanning technology. The new steering wheel finger vein authentication system debuted at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show this month.
So much for those chic leather driving gloves!
"This new system has two advantages - usability and security: from security viewpoint, the main application is theft prevention," New Launches said. "However there is twist to the tail, the company apparently sees the demand for using it as a preventative measure against unauthorized use of 'on-vehicle credit settlement,'" they explained.
"From the usability aspect, the system allows an interior that can satisfy the driver's requirements (seat position, air conditioner setting, etc.) and enhances the operability of various kinds of applications (audio equipment, car navigation system, etc.)
What happens if you've had a few too many and you ask your buddy to drive? I suppose you would have to put your hands on the wheel first.
