The Zimmermann Fall 2014 Collection Channels 50s Subcultures

Looks from the Zimmermann Fall 2014 collection were surprisingly bright and uplifting for a cool-weather collection and it seems that the Australian fashion brand must have brought some sunshine with it for its third show at New York Fashion Week.

Designer Nicky Zimmermann’s ‘Cloud Stompers’ collection was inspired by a photograph of her mother from the 1950s, as well as subcultures like Beatniks, Sharpies and Teddy Girls. These influences are seen on dark black jumpsuits studded with metal and dresses with motorcycle parts printed on them. The gang influence brings a tough edge to the collection, but it is not overpowering and it still manages to strike a beautiful balance between hard and soft.

The looks are made up mostly of black, white and grays, but there were a few instances of a cool blue and hot reds that brought color into the collection — another strong contrast that was carried throughout the Zimmermann show.
