Zachary Abel Creates Artwork Inspired by Mathematics

Household objects such as binder clips, playing cards, paperclips and many more play a huge role in Zachary Abel's geometric sculptures. Although a mathematician by day, he is currently a 2nd year Ph.D. student in the MIT Mathematics department, Zachary Abel is clearly an artist by night. Of course, he does use his mathematical skills as a basis from his sculptures.

As Zachary Abel states, "I design and build Mathematical Sculptures, attempting to reveal hidden geometric beauty in office supplies and other modest materials." His creation has been dubbed the Impenetraball and it is made from 132 binder clips. Zachary Abel suspects it is sturdy enough to support his own weight, though he has yet to conduct that little experiment.
