Facial Recognition Checkout Stations

Self-Service Tills Can Now Confirm a Customer's ID with Yoti

There are many stores that have now implemented self-service checkout stations, but for the most part, consumers are still required to cash out at a till that is serviced by a human when it comes to the purchase of age-restricted items—but Yoti is changing this.

The Yoti app makes it possible for a self-service till to replace an ID check with facial recognition technology. Upon making a purchase that is limited to customers of a certain age, Yoti calls up a QR code on the screen of the self-serve checkout kiosk. From there, a shopper is able to scan the code and have their identity confirmed to proceed with their purchase.

Prior to using the app in-store, customers may set up the app to verify their identity by taking a photo of themselves and scanning an official government document, such as a driver's license or passport.
