Chen + Suchart Studio designed the 'Yerger Residence,' in Phoenix, Arizona. One of the primary concerns when designing the home was to ensure that it optimized for views of the Camelback Mountain, located to the east of the site.
Upon the concrete base, a floating steel-clad volume and masonry volume are established. Inside the base is a sunken garage and fitness studio, which has access the sunken garden at the rear of the house. The concave garden has the added benefit of being a cooler outdoor space, and its connection to the fitness area also promotes outdoor exercise.
Inside, the house is furnished with both polished and raw industrial materials, such as polished wenge millwork, stainless steel, white Carrera marble and terrazzo flooring, creating a healthy juxtaposition.
