Commissioned by a creative client, Surman Weston designed this picturesque writer's shed. The property owner, an author and illustrator, asked the London-based architecture company to make him a backyard working space for his Hackney home.
Inspired by a love for children's literature and mythology, the writer's shed is described as a "fairytale hut at the bottom of the garden where the client can retreat and immerse himself in his work."
The structure has a cedar exterior with a shingle roof, chimney and log storage area. The space has floods of natural light thanks to a north-facing skylight. It also has a large sliding door. A book case surrounds the wood-burning stove, which also allows the writer to show off his favorite titles.
