The 'Write Once Read Many' Display Can Be Written On Using Light

'Write Once Read Many' -- 'WORM' for short -- is an amazing display system that can be written on and erased with light. The technology was developed by scientists at Universiti Malaysia Pahang.

The Write Once Read Many display is essentially an optical storage device whose molecular geometry can be altered by shining light on it, allowing shapes, words and pictures to be embedded onto its display in as little as 20 seconds. The displays are fabricated using highly photosensitive compounds, and are written on using an ultraviolet light pen. At the flip of a switch, light is shone on the display and erases it completely.

Surprisingly, the Write Once Read Many display is surprisingly inexpensive to produce. A 3x3 feet display costs only $45. The current displays are only in black and white, but the developers are working towards creating color displays.
