Studio Sain — which was founded in 2019 by designers Martijn Rigters and Namuun Zimmermann, decided to embrace the woodturning technique and showcase the objects as part of Vienna Design Week's Passionswege 2019 program. For the project, which was dubbed 'Bulbous,' the studio worked with Hermann Viehauser — "one of Austria's last remaining woodturners."
'Bulbous' is adamant in exploring the contemporary potential of a traditional craft such as the woodturning technique. Completed by hand, the collection consists of a modular shelving system, a movable light, as well as a mirror.
