Martin Azua's Wooden Chair Design Takes Inspiration from Footwear

The Shoemaker Chair is a shapely wooden chair design by Martín Azúa that uses materials like leather and lace to hold the chair together the same way you would a lace-up shoe.

The sculptural wooden chair's folds are punctuated by a number of small eyelets, which leave space for the laces to be threaded through. As well as being pleasing visual details, like a shoe, actually tightening the laces provides more support to the back of the chair and the armrests. Azúa describes that "Objects are usually true to some schemes and they find their identity in some pre-established premises. This chair claims its personality as a shoe and requires the care of a shoe."
