Sebastian Cox enlisted Lorna Singleton to help him design this collection of swilled wood furniture. Swilling is a rare skill to possess nowadays, especially in Britain, where Singleton is one of four people who frequently use the technique in their work.
Each piece in the collection is fashioned from green wood. Singleton swills the wood -- meaning that she splits it into strips, which are then boiled in water -- and then weaves them into the desired piece. Together, Singleton and Cox have created shelves, lights, a bench and a stool, all created with English ash and coppiced English oak wood.
The collection stays true to the strength and alacrity of the material, taking on what Cox describes as a "simple and textural aesthetic."
