Hong Kong's New Waterfront Walk Is Filled With Interactive Objects

The new waterfront walk located in Wan Chai, Hong Kong is designed to attract the strolling pedestrians through a series of interactive objects. The project is entitled 'Zoo Along the Waterfront' and was curated by the Hong Kong Arts Center and commissioned by the Harbourfront Commission in order to bring to life to scenic Victoria Harbour.

The design features a series of mundane structures. Rather than creating large geometric structures and objects, the architects chose to use pragmatic shapes which are designed to challenge the viewer's notion of art displays. The waterfront walk consists of five wooden objects that were inspired by five different animals: a fox, giraffe, monkey, elephant, and cat. The strolling pedestrians are invited to interact with the objects in whatever capacity they desire, whether that be through touch, looking, relaxing, or discussing.
