The Watching the Ships Roll In may be described as a sofa or a bench, but it also happens to look like a bare-boned day bed. From the removable cushions to its asymmetrical design, it gives the day bed a contemporary cot-like look. Although the overall design might be simple, the name suggests a romantic undertone, one that involves a person sitting down while taking in the vast ocean.
Designed by Marie Dessuant for Singularité, the Watching the Ships Roll In sofa/bench is made out of beech wood with a cotton canvas mattress and cushions. According to the Singularité website, it is "a contemporary and domestic interpretation of the deck chair." Only 30 pieces were produced.
