These portraits look like something that could have come out of Wes Anderson’s film The Life Aquatic. Stankovic uses tons of dream-like colors to create these magical beings, and they even glow and flicker in some spots.
Just to make the series even more terrific, Stankovic gives a back story, saying on his site that "Cephalopodoptera is a newly discovered order of species, a link between molluscs and insects. They live in the deepest underwater caves of the oceans worldwide."
These portraits are definitely inspired by a childlike wonder and imagination. It's not often that one sees the merging between bugs and animals that live within the depths of the ocean.
