Visual Search Engines

Ziipa is StumbleUpon's Indie Cousin

Ziipa is a visual search engine geared towards the Web 2.0 set. More indie rock than top 40, as Mashable’s Paul Glazowski quips, Ziipa allows users to search in a number of different ways. There’s the traditional search bar at the top of the page, but also a tag cloud on the right and a Top 10 function.

For those who have grown bored relentlessly clicking through Stumble pages, Ziipa provides a welcome spot of respite. It features search results that aren’t as mainstream as those found on a Google or Yahoo search but are every bit as fascinating. For example, I found Lurvely, a site that helps readers find amazing Flickr photos. Lurvely wouldn’t make Google’s first few pages of results for Flickr images, but it’s a new addition to my bookmarks list.
