Virtual Dementia Simulators

This Vitrual Reality System is a Learning Tool for Dementia Caregivers

Australian graduates from Swinburne University have created the 'Virtual Dementia Experience,' which is an interactive learning tool designed to help simulate the feelings experienced by sufferers of mental dementia.

The project was designed to allow caregivers to experience their own type of "Virtual Dementia," in order to help better understand and empathize with their patients. Although it can't simulate the feelings of memory loss, the technology does allow to simulate additional symptoms associated with mental deterioration and the distorted perceptions of reality that come along with them.

The multi-media technology currently works with both Microsoft Kinect and Oculus Rift, and additional plans are being made to expand this groundbreaking software to work with Google Cardboard as well. This will allow the VR simulation to also be used on smartphones as an inexpensive and easy to use app.
