Photographer Jody Ake creates vintage-looking portraits using modern photographs of celebrities and normal people -- and the results are amazingly authentic.
The captivating portraits are so well done that they will make you feel like you've gone back in time. But that's exactly the point. The new photographs were made to look like vintage-looking portraits using a photographic technique called the wet collodion process -- which is a super ancient method invented in 1851 -- to make sure the portraits looked genuine. To create the effect, the Portland-based photographer had to coat a glass plate with collodion and expose it while wet which causes an ambrotype to form on the glass which is then applied to the final image.
