Energy-Generating Homes

The Villa Akarp in Sweden Produces More Energy than It Uses

The solar panel covered Villa Akarp is currently being built by Karin Adalberth and E. ON in Malmo, Sweden. When complete, the house will help save enough, and produce enough, green energy to give back to the grid.

As the winters are very long and very dark in Sweden, Adalberth was looking for an eco-friendly, economical solution to power the Villa Akarp. This quest led her to a deal that would let her buy electricity in the winter, and sell energy in the summer.

Some of the traits incorporated in the the Villa Akarp include 5.5 decimeters of wool fiber insulation, foam insulation along the foundation and triple-glazed, air-tight, sun-welcoming windows. The house will be heated by radiators, Passiv Haus heating and solar panels on the roof.
