Google and Château de Versailles Created a Detailed Versailles VR Tour

Google has created a Versailles VR tour, along with efforts from Château de Versailles. The two organizations collaborated in order to create a Versailles VR tour of the residence of Louis XIV as well as other prominent locations in the city. The project is the largest ever photogrammetry effort ever undertaken at the Louis XIV castle.

The VR tour includes the castle with 21 different rooms and 387,500 square footage. Google had to manage over 4TB of information, as well as texture 15 billion pixels to make the tour. The VR tour also includes the Royal Opera House, the Royal Chapel as well as the Hall of Mirrors. The tour is available on both HTC Vive as well as Oculus Rift headsets.
