Canadian studio Splyce Design has completed the 'East Van House,' a Vancouver house with a sloping roof that follows the silhouette of the staircase. The architects were influenced by Modernist-style homes when designing this cedar-clad residence.
Given that the home occupies a smaller plot than most of the homes in the area, the architects built the roof up to maximize internal space. The slope was designed to accommodate the staircase inside. The architects explain, "The off-set, asymmetrical roof worked well in accommodating the stairs, and created some unique spaces inside."
The ground floor contains the street entrance, the open-plan kitchen and dining area, a living area and terrace, all of which are oriented towards the south end in an attempt to utilize natural light.
