Vampires are currently at the very peak of chic thanks to the success of Twilight, True Blood and New Moon, and the fashion world has not overlooked this trend. Red and black, the colours commonly linked to these blood sucking figures have been seen on many runways for fall 2009.
Alexander McQueen, Danielle Scutt, Giambattista Valli and Yohji Yamamoto have all used the high contrasting black and red hues in their collections to envision the land of the vampire.
McQueen’s hooded and glittery black floor-length gown with its red lapel lining is a prime example. The dark, over-the-edge lips add to the Goth effect and his ultra-high heels with leather leggings are super sexy. Danielle Scutt used crimson flames and corseted bodices to realize the vampire energy. Valli’s scarlet lined capes and coats are wickedly stylishly with touches of red. Yamamoto had his models in pale, bloodless make-up and used shots of ruby in shoes, socks and trim and even hair highlights.
I imagine there will be a lot of vampire-themed fashions in the stores this fall, maybe even sooner.
