URWERK Offers Up the Open Satellite 'UR-120' Spock Timepiece

URWERK has launched a new open-satellite version of its UR timepiece, delivering the ‘UR-120,’ also known as Spock. The watch's new ‘open satellite’ system tips the arms using two rotating cubes that display numerals when placed next to each other. The dormant displays detach, rotate on their own axes, and reconstitute to alter the numeral displayed before being used to display the time once more. The movement has been compared to the Vulcan salute from Star Trek, which led to the brand giving the timekeeper the Spock moniker.

"The idea was to go in a thinner, smoother, more elegant direction," said Martin Frei, co-founder, and URWERK’s Artistic Director. "To do that, we redesigned the entire satellite system. Each satellite is now made of two sub-elements to make it thinner, easier to read and to give it unprecedented fluidity."

The ‘UR-120’ is available now via URWERK retailers, priced at CHF 100,000 (approximately $101,000 USD).
