Experimental Underwater Photography

This Unique Underwater Photo Series Uses a Scanner as a Camera

This unique underwater photo series captures surreal and ethereal images under the ocean's surface using a modified desktop scanner as a camera. The alluring and unique underwater photo series was captured by photographer Nathaniel Stern who decided to create his own modified photography equipment with the help of desktop scanners, battery packs and other computer components instead of using typical professional underwater cameras. And the results are dreamy.

In the ‘Rippling Images’ series, we see what life looks like underwater in a completely different way thanks to Stern's creative creation. The images may be a little blurry but that was the whole point of the experimental series that portrays vibrant marine life in a completely novel way. To use the image-capturing device, Stern had to tie it to his torso and dive below the oceans surface to capture the images.
