MIT Researchers Have Created a Battery=Free Underwater Sensor

Researchers from MIT have developed an underwater sensor that is able to operate without a battery as well as transmit information. MIT indicates that the underwater sensor could be implemented to monitor ocean temperatures and keep track of ocean life, all while not needing to allocate resources into the equipment. Previously, equipment for those projects would rely on power sources to be operated.

The system is able to use a transmitter that puts out information underwater using soundwaves. The soundwaves then travel to another sensor that has a receiver and are also able to send back information.

The MIT researchers are now looking to expand the project to cover longer distances. Low-resolution images could also be transmitted in the future.
