New York-based artist Olek is literally and figuratively taking her work to new depths with her underwater installations. The installations, set up in Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancun in Mexico, aim to highlight the health of the planet's oceans and bring awareness to the plight of the regions sharks, which are declining in numbers.
The photographs that capture the work include one of a colorful yarn-clad diver floating alongside a whale shark, which happens to be the world's largest fish.
Some of the installations are located in the Museu Subacuatico de Arte underwater museum. One of these consists of what appears to be a time bomb. The inspiration for this piece was drawn by a quote from sculptor Jason DeCaires Taylor where he likened the health of the oceans to a ticking time bomb.
