Screen-Integrated Mobile Phones

Oppo Reveals a Device with the First Under-Screen Selfie Camera

Cellphone manufacturers have been undergoing the technical challenge of increasing screen size, but integrating the screen with an under-screen selfie camera may be an innovative solution. Oppo is the first company to develop the under-screen selfie camera. The display is made from transparent material, and a re-engineered pixel system allows light to pass through the screen so the camera can operate. The company also indicates that the display will not be limited as a result of the camera underneath it.

Oppo has also stated that algorithms have been implemented to protect the under-screen selfie camera. The algorithms act to protect against potential camera issue including haze, glare, and color cast.

Oppo has not set a date to put the device on the market but the company would like to do so, "in the near future."
