The UB1K Chair Looks Fit to Furnish Another Planet

The UB1K Chair shares many qualities with your run-of-the-mill seat, but the materials, the treatment and the assembly of the object make it look rather foreign. Its bowing legs and its strange silhouette make it an alien in the scheme of contemporary furniture.

Designer Edward Kim composed his extraterrestrial chair from four complex components: two of these are Y-shaped supports for the back of the perch; another is a third leg that spreads into two feet as well; the backrest is X-shaped and detailed with sculptural lines and grooves; and the seat looks like the shell of a black beetle, complete with a scaly eye-like pattern that's mirrored between its two halves.

The UB1K Chair would work great as a desk chair or a dining chair. Its sinewy frame would certainly be a focal point in any room.
