Aritst Tyrus Wong's Work Depicts a Different Side of 'Bambi'

Breathtakingly beautiful, the artwork of Tyrus Wong, who turned an impressive 103 years of age this past October, inspired the look of the beloved Disney classic, 'Bambi.' A huge departure from the way animated films looked back in the day, Tyrus Wong was inspired to focus on a more atmospheric take of the story after reading the script. Even by today's standards, his work is timelessly striking and haunting.

Inspired by Sung dynasty landscape paintings, Tyrus Wong's paintings is set to appear at the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. Comprised of 150 pieces, "Tyrus’s Chinese-inspired sketches and paintings set the look and tone for Bambi and were some of the most strikingly beautiful art ever produced at the Walt Disney Studios," as written on the Disney Museum website.
