OLED Stargazing Pranks

LG's TV Prank Tricks the Public into Seeing Stars

To prove that people really never truly get to appreciate the beauty of the stars in the night sky, LG set up a fun TV prank in Chile.

LG set up an outdoor station with a telescope where passersby could gaze into what seemed like outer space. Unbeknownst to the victims of the prank, LG had rigged the telescope to point up at a television suspended outside of a building. With this system in place, people were able to see the stars in incredibly vivid detail. After a few moments of gazing in bewilderment, funny animations were brought up onscreen, such as a game of Pong or Space Invaders that revealed the experience as a prank.

For this stunt, LG didn't try to dupe people into thinking they were seeing the sky. Instead, it focused on challenging people to see "the real colours of the sky," which speaks to how confident it is about the color and clarity of its OLED TV screens.
