Emergent Floating Shelters

Tajima Motor Company's New Tsunami Shelter is for Emergency Workers

The devastating 2011 tsunami is very much still in the minds of the Japanese people, as a variety of tsunami shelter designs have since emerged. The latest from Tajima Motor Company is intended as a last resort for emergency workers who would otherwise be unable to escape.

The unsinkable and immensely strong Tsunami Floating Shelter SAFE+ comes in two sizes: one with a capacity for 10 passengers, and another fitting 20 people. The larger size is also wheelchair accessible. The seats come equipped with four-point seat belts and tie-downs for the wheelchair bound passengers. The tsunami shelter has 180 degree self-righting capabilities as well. There are two exits--a main door that opens above water level and a roof hatch.
