Danish architects MLRP designed the 'Traffic House,' a Copenhagen playground space characterized by its surrounding road markings, which are intended to espouse the importance of road safety. Along with the markings, which are meant for on-site skill testing, the space features classrooms and storage slots.
Located in one of the cities largest parks, the Traffic House features folding panels -- in black timber or steel -- that allow it to open during the day and close at night. The panels scale back to expose orange walls, a choice which was by no means accidental: the orange is the same hue as a traffic cone and the galvanized steel panels are meant to simulate traffic reflectors. The black panels were chosen to represent asphalt.
Next to the classrooms, a structure housing a kitchen, workshop and go-kart storage is located.
