Toyota ToyoTags Let the Car Maker Enhance Customer Interaction

Digital marketing hasn't yet been heavily used in the auto industry, but the Toyota ToyoTags may change all that. Toyota is setting an example for automakers everywhere by attempting to engage consumers through SnapTags, which operate much like QR codes. So far, SnapTags have been used by major brands like Coors Light and Coke.

The ToyoTags are essentially rings bearing the Toyota logo on the inside and which employ SnapTag technology. Each ToyoTag allows a consumer to snap the image with his phone -- having a smartphone isn't necessary -- to access Toyota's product information, safety tips and more. In addition to more interactivity and consumer engagement, these tags also allow Toyota to roll out more social media marketing campaigns in the future.

Toyota plans to use the Toyota ToyoTags with the release of its 2012 car models including the Prius V.
