Michelin & GM's Innovative Uptis Prototype is Airless & Flat-Proof

At the recent Michelin Movin’On Summit, Michelin and GM joined forces to introduce a tire prototype for Uptis, a design that's entirely 3D-printed, airless and flat-proof. The innovative prototype has the potential to increase consumer safety and convenience in the future, especially as the model will help to avoid blowouts and cut down on maintenance costs.

Currently, the Uptis tire prototype is being tested on a fleet of Chevrolet Bolt EVs and the design is set to be available to the public by the year 2024. Notably, the tires are being tested in Michigan, which has harsh weather and many potholes according to residents.

The design of the Uptis itself is opaque and eco-friendly, as the style can be produced with less material and a reduced amount of waste as compared to regular tire designs.
