'Threads for Thought' is Eco and Donates Proceeds for Good

At first glance, the Threads for Thought website looks like just another hipster fashion line, but it only takes a few seconds before the socially-conscious messaging makes it evident that this brand is committed to the triple bottom line.

As its name suggests, Threads for Thought is a social business focused on creating and selling fashionable, sustainable apparel. The company was founded by now-married highschool sweethearts Eric Fleet and Leigh Fleet who came up with the idea to merge their mutual concerns for humanitarian issues and consumerism with Eric's knowledge of the apparel industry.

"What began as a small business manufacturing and marketing graphic tee shirts that were made exclusively from organic cotton, gave back to charity, and promoted a cleaner environment, or advocated for peace, has grown into a complete lifestyle brand," Eric says.

They use low impact dyes and incorporate recycled materials when possible -- they even have a process that allows them to turn old water bottles into fabric.

"Our products use sustainable materials and are manufactured in the most sustainable manner possible. We only work with factories that respect their employees and treat them humanely and fairly."

Threads for Thought works with charities such as the International Rescue Committee and the Natural Resources Defense Council. They've also launched their own line, Girl 2 Girl, which helps women support and protect girls in 40 countries by donating 10% of the proceeds from Girl 2 Girl fashion toward the purchase of clean water, hygiene products, solar flashlights, whistles, healthcare and education.
