Custom Toy Printers

Autodesk and Mattel Relaunched the 'ThingMaker' as a $300 3D Printer for Kids

Back in the 60s, Mattel introduced the ThingMaker, a toy kit that let kids use molds to make rubbery 3D toys. Now, the toy has been relaunched with new technology from the maker movement, giving kids even more new possibilities for what can be created.

The ThingMaker has now been introduced as a $300 kid-friendly 3D printer, which makes it possible for kids to become the creators of their own toys. In partnership with Autodesk, Mattel launched the ThingMaker Design app, which allows for greater customization of 3D models. Through this app, kids can drag and drop parts to create fairies, dinosaurs, robots, as well as wearable toys and more. These creations can be fully customized in terms of color, shape and size.

When it comes time to print, the device locks for safety and kids can watch as their creations come to life through an oven-like window.
