Hot Water Keeps Berries Mold-Free

One of summer’s greatest delights is the sweet, ripe and readily available fruit. Berries such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are highly favored but by nightfall mold usually begins rear its ugly head. A technique called Thermotherapy is here to help preserve summer’s beautiful berries.

Mold easily penetrates the berries soft surfaces and mold spores are everywhere. So, what kills mold but won’t leave a chemical residue on our fruit? A 125-140 degree, 30 second fruit bath and thermotherapy won’t harm the fruits’ shape, colour and consistency. Quickly dip the berries into the heated water and then gently place on paper towels for a few minutes to dry and cool. Once the berries are relatively dry pack them up and place them in the fridge. Et voila, a mold-free summertime treat.
