Students and researchers from Barcelona's Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia have built The Voxel cabin as part of the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia's Master in Advanced Ecological Buildings and Biocities program. The program focuses on hands-on ecological architectural designs.
That being said, the self-isolation cabin is located in the Collserola natural park and is built with wood harvested from a 1-kilometer radius away from the site. Forty pine trees went into the structure in a deliberate effort to increase biodiversity in the area. Moreover, the project observes the ecological transformation of wood as a structural, thermal, and constructive material from sustainable forest management.
Practically speaking, The Voxel is a COVID-19 project designed for a single occupant who must undergo a 14-day quarantine.
