The pop-up tamale vendor is open biweekly, and it sells the meat cakes on location and through take-out orders over the phone.
The women working at The Tamale Kitchen are members of the Our Lady of the Peace Catholic Church. When their priest became frustrated by the lack of decent paying jobs that these women could acquire, he contacted a local non-profit business owner and the concept for The Tamale Kitchen was born.
The goal of the kitchen is to provide the women working there with strong wages (they earn $12.50 an hour) as well as to teach them the skills necessary to run a business.
