Transcendental Stop-Motion Shorts

'The Eagle Man Stag' by Mikey Please is Philosophically Moving

Winner of the 2011 BAFTA Award for Best Animated short, 'The Eagle Man Stag' by Mikey Please is a philosophical depiction of a man's struggle to find "weightyness" in his life.

The film begins with a quick reverse montage of the events that will occur throughout the film's sequence. The narrator describes events in terms of factual relevance and emotional (or lack there of) significance. As the film progresses, the protagonist embarks on a journey into the amazon and comes across a new species of beetle, which he names the Eagle Man stag.

After discovering that the beetle has the ability to regrow organic tissue, the protagonist decides to keep this discovery to himself until he nears the end of his life. The film is full of transcendental imagery and sublime narration, lending itself well to repeated viewings.
