Life Lesson Gurus

The Amazings is a Social Enterprise Harnessing the Skills of Retirees

Coming out of East London, the Amazings is a social enterprise that harnesses the skills of retirees. The teachers use their passion and knowledge to teach mini-lessons on a breadth of niche topics -- and get paid for it. The Amazings act as a sort of mediator between the customer and the life lesson gurus. They take care of payment and advertising leaving the retiree (or "the Amazing" as they're called) to figure out how they want to run the activity. The Amazings team consists of three young women including Katie Harris who is the Project Lead, Nikki Sherry, who is the Design Lead, and Katy Koren, who is the Events Co-ordinator.

The Amazings offer mad skills. Some upcoming activities include: Fix, Fit and Make It Fabulous with Lora, Make Up Techniques and Tips with Jane, Chocolate Tasting and Making with Gail, Retro Up Do's with Michael, Street Photography with Andrew, Woodland Art & Walking Tour with Terry and Knitting Masterclass with Bernadette.

In addition to those awesome classes, their website is stellar. They have reviews from people who went through activities with the retirees, as well as an 'Amazing Resolutions' page where you can send your future self a letter. "It doesn't matter what it is, just that it's something personal to you that will make you feel amazing," step one outlines.

What's so cool about the Amazings is that it's an intergenerational program that fosters community through its personalized branding style while at the same time helps to transfer some pretty crafty skills.
