Text-Detecting Radar Guns

This Texting Gun Can Tell if a Driver is Sending a SMS While Driving

ComSonics has designed a texting gun that can detect if a driver is sending an SMS, transferring data or making a phone call. The device is called The Sniffer Sleuth II and it can detect which person in the car is using their phone; if it detects a passenger texting, it will not alert the police.

An SMS, data transfer, or phone call emit unique radio frequencies that can be picked up by ComSonics’ texting gun. U.S. legislators have yet to approve the texting gun and many are concerned that it could be an invasion of privacy. Malcolm McIntyre of ComSonics says that the texting gun will not be able to identify the contents of the text messages or phone calls.

The texting gun will be useful in certain countries like the U.K. where driving and using a phone for any purpose is illegal. U.S. states differ on laws dealing with driving and phone use but states that have banned texting and driving will also find the texting gun useful.
