Teddy Bear Natural History is a Creepy Spin on a Childhood Classic

Teddy Bear Natural History is a series of felted skulls created by Stephanie Metz. These fuzzy bone structures are not what one would imagine the inside of a teddy bear to look like; the creatures have sharp teeth and large eye holes that create a more realistic version of a bear's anatomy. It is definitely hard to imagine cuddling up to one of these bears at night.

According to the artist, she designed these skulls to reflect how humans "manipulate the natural world to our own ends." She believes that a teddy bear is a far removal from the wild bears that roam the earth. By creating these realistic skulls, Metz hopes to draw some attention to this issue.
