The Table Lamp Z by Cobre Estudio is a sculptural table lamp formed from a single laser-cut 2-millimetre steel sheet that is folded into a self-supporting Z-shaped structure. Designed by Malena Vivanco and Miranda Gurny, the lamp relies on the folded metal itself for both structural integrity and visual identity, eliminating the need for assembled components or secondary framing. Warm illumination reflects across the internal steel surfaces, accentuating the geometric folds while allowing the appearance of the lamp to shift with changing ambient light throughout the day.
The design emphasises manufacturing clarity by exposing the folded steel construction rather than concealing it behind decorative elements. A coloured fabric power cord introduces a subtle visual contrast to the industrial metal body while remaining the only customisable exterior detail. The Cobre Estudio logo is integrated directly into the steel surface as part of the fabrication process.

The Table Lamp Z Transforms a Single Steel Sheet into Lighting
Trend Themes
-
Single-sheet Construction — Products formed from one continuous material surface highlight opportunities for reduced assembly, lower part counts, and distinctive structural aesthetics.
-
Exposed Manufacturing — Visible fabrication methods create value by turning production logic into a design feature that communicates precision, durability, and material honesty.
-
Adaptive Light Reflection — Reflective interior surfaces enable lighting objects to shift visually with ambient conditions, supporting more dynamic and atmospheric home environments.
Industry Implications
-
Lighting Design — Sculptural lamps built around simplified fabrication processes suggest new premium formats where form, structure, and illumination are integrated.
-
Metal Fabrication — Laser-cut and folded sheet metal applications demonstrate potential for expanding industrial techniques into expressive consumer products with minimal components.
-
Home Decor — Minimal customizable details paired with bold material forms point to decor products that balance industrial character with personal expression.
