SureScreen Diagnostics is Launching a Sustainable Covid Solution

SureScreen Diagnostics, a company based in Derby, UK, is the first in the world to mass produce biodegradable lateral flow test cassettes for diagnosing Covid-19. The cassettes will be made of biodegradable materials and have finally launched after an intensive year-long testing period.

The company has also exported tests to over 50 countries and wanted to address the planet's increasing plastic pollution problem -- more prevalent following the recent pandemic and the rise of one-time use medical products. As a response, the company has created a full kit that relies on alternative and sustainable materials without sacrificing performance.

Specifically, Surescreen is using PBAT and PLA materials for its test cassette and component bags and is encouraging other medical equipment brands to follow suit by creating sustainable alternatives to useful yet wasteful medical testing solutions.
