Superpose Aurora Brings Surrealistic Art to Life in a Music Video

Superpose Aurora brings surrealist art to life. The main influence of the Brazilian independent music video is the painting The Lovers (Les Amants, 1928) by the Belgian surrealist René Magritte. 83 years later, the powerful images of people with white cloth on their faces come back in a poetic video.

Magritte’s mother committed suicide by drowning herself in a river. There is a legend that says that when young Magritte found his dead mother her dress was covering her face, which inspired a whole series of paintings with people with cloth on their faces like The Lovers.

In Superpose Aurora the dead people in a morgue cover their faces with clothes to make a ritual of life. "Aurora" in Portuguese means "dawn" and that guides the concept of ritual of passage in which life and death merge into a new existence.

Other influences of Superpose Aurora include Daft Punk's Around the World video which was directed by Michel Gondry. The piece looks to the dance and movements from the Daft Punk video. Bjork's All is Full of Love video directed by Chris Cunningham was the inspiration for the cinematography and editing of Superpose Aurora.
