Wearable Robot Exoskeletons

LG's SuitBot Improves User's Ability to Lift Heavy Objects Over Time

As part of LG's CLOi range of service robots, SuitBot is a unique wearable robot that is purpose-built to help workers who participate in prolonged heavy lifting. Debuting at IFA 2018 in Berlin, this showing is being called the first ever "human-centric wearable robot." Designed to be worn around the waist and legs, the SuitBot is built as an exoskeleton to "support and enhance a user's legs," ensuring factory workers and other people doing heavy lifting can operate heavy objects with greater strength and mobility.

The SuitBot was built in partnership with South Korean-based SG Robotics with a focus on "comfortable fit and naturally rotating joints." This focus allows the wearable robot to be worn for long periods of time, whether the tasks entail lifting, walking, or standing.
Trend Themes
1. Wearable Exoskeletons - The development of wearable exoskeletons for the industrial and healthcare sectors presents a significant opportunity for improving the physical capabilities of workers and individuals.
2. Human-centric Robotics - The emergence of human-centric robotics like LG's SuitBot signals a shift towards designing and implementing robotics technologies that are tailored to work alongside humans in industries like manufacturing and logistics.
3. Comfortable Robotics - Advancements in robotic technologies that prioritize comfort and adaptability to the human anatomy can enable the designing of industrial robots that can improve worker safety and task efficiency.
Industry Implications
1. Manufacturing - The introduction of wearable exoskeletons can revolutionize the manufacturing industry by enabling workers to operate heavy machinery with greater strength and endurance, thereby increasing production capacity.
2. Healthcare - The use of exoskeletons in healthcare can assist patients in regaining mobility and strength, particularly for individuals who may be recovering from injuries or conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system.
3. Logistics - The wearable exoskeleton technology can improve the work conditions for logistics workers who frequently lift and move heavy objects, making the tasks more manageable, and reducing the risk of work-related injuries.
