Tire-Infused Concrete

UBC Engineers Created Stronger Concrete Using Recycled Rubber Tires

A team of researchers from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada have discovered that recycled tires can be used to create stronger concrete. The UBC engineers incorporated fibers from rubber tires into concrete and discovered that it let to an increasingly strong and stable product and reduced the amount of cracking too. By recycling used tires to reinforce concrete they are not only making stronger concrete and better building materials, but also address an eco issue.

The environmentally friendly solution helps with the fact that just concrete production alone contributes to 7% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This is an example of how upcycled materials can be used to make the construction industry more structurally sound as well as eco-friendly.
