Stéphanie Baechler’s Lodonite Fuses Fabric with Stone

If you’re someone who’s drawn to innovative uses of materials, you'll love the latest project by Swiss artist Stéphanie Baechler. Her 'Lodonite collection is all about mineral textures transformed into fabric, influenced by materials like rocks, gems and ores, together with the geometric dimensions and densities each element encapsulates. We see stiff Loden fabrics transformed into elegant, fluid lines, shaped to follow the body during movement to render the figure into a living sculpture as the wearer comes to rest. The underlying concept is all about the "effortless, casual flow from fashion to art and back again." Contrasting fabrics are layered to imitate the multifaceted qualities of quartz and agate, with architectural shapes and angular cut-outs creating a distinctly unique yet elegant finish. The name "Lodonite" itself comes from the combination of Old High German ‘Loden’ (or ‘coarse cloth’) and ‘ite,’ from the Greek ‘lithos’ (relating to rock or stone).
