Stockbox Neighborhood Grocery Attempts to Provide Access

Based in Seattle, Washington, Stockbox Neighborhood Grocery, through what they call "small-format" stores, attempts to provide fresh product access to those communities that are in need, that is, in this case, primarily urban food deserts.

Its founders -- Carrie Ferrence and Jacqueline Gjurgevich -- were 2012 Echoing Green Fellows last year in the Food and Agriculture category. "Stockbox Grocers believes that every community should have access to good food, to promote healthful living, social equity, and economic vibrancy," they write on their Echoing Green Profile. "We improve this access by placing small-format neighborhood grocery stores throughout urban communities, to offer fresh produce, meal solutions, and grocery staples."
