Commercial Space Station Interiors

Philippe Starck's Design Boasts Soft Walls & a Cozy Aesthetic

French designer Philippe Starck embarked on his dream project as he was commissioned by privately owned exploration company Axiom Space to develop a space station interior. With "a genuine fascination for aviation and space exploration," the creative drew inspiration from the comforts and balance found in a mother's womb.

Philippe Starck had the opportunity to design the "world's first" commercial space station interior. The habitation module is set to launch in 2020 and will "house paying individuals on expeditions" to the International Space Station.

The French designer installed suede-textured walls infused with hundreds of LED lights that shift in luminance. In addition, the windows offer breathtaking views of the Earth below. This will surely be a one-of-a-kind luxe experience for consumers.
